Thanks for checking out this site, I hope you found something useful for your time…
I decided to start writing this blog for a number of reasons. If you have taken the time to find out about my journey, the least I can do is repay you with an honest reflection on those reasons.
Up until relatively recently, maybe within the last two years, I have felt a longing to do “something different”. I know how clichéd that phrase is. I understand how remarkable we all are and how every day we all intend (in the most) to do “something different”. But, for the most part, we rarely do. I am no different. Or am I?
I suppose the honest truth is that, like us all, I think I am different but lack the complete confidence to prove it. Then, I met my husband. When you work as a pair, a couple or however you wish to define your particular union, you feel immeasurably more confident, especially if you have a strong bond like me and Sean.
We have an alternative perspective on modern life and now struggle to decide where we fit in. We don’t really want to work for the next 35 years to pay for a box that costs money to run, which in turn keeps us working at a career which perpetually fails to fulfill what it promises. I especially don’t want to contribute to this society when I smell its fragility in the air. The devastation that is being caused to the planet everyday likely means that the mortgage term for properties nowadays will outlive the constructs of modern society.
Before I start sounding like some protester from Extinction Rebellion, I need to explain…
I am a scientist. I understand physics and chemistry and I also know that the Earth will be fine. It is the Human that will die, just like 98% of everything else that has been and gone before us. All of this is happening and we continue to rape and pillage resources and produce more humans to consume those resources. Again, perspective check; I love humanity, children and the sanctity of life. That’s why I want to reduce my impact. So that there is an Earth left for future generations to experience.
I guess both of these messages have combined in our minds and we have decided to try and live a nomadic life by cycle touring Europe and beyond. As part of that journey I want to show everyone and anyone how possible it truly is to do “something different”.
Whatever your reasons for reading my story, I hope its purpose rings home in your heart.
As a reader of my site I hope to give you a view into a different way of life. In the coming months as we begin our cycle tour and beyond I will need to change so many aspects of my life, I hope to take you on that journey with me.
I will be reviewing the modifications I make to my bike and myself! I also hope to share our alternative ideas and thoughts for inspiration for you to follow your own dreams.
